Steve Homer is a recognized international certification and standards specialist. He has worked with the Global Food Safety Initiative and the Global Social Compliance Platform in developing benchmarking criteria and writing normative reference standards over the last decade.

Steve has served on the Boards of GlobalGap, the Ethical Trade Initiative, NSF-CMi (a global not-for-profit certification and risk management organization), and the UK National Proficiency and Testing Council. As a former director of GlobalGap, he maintains close relationships with the organization and has worked on global certification projects in Ukraine for the UK Foreign Office and Ministry of the Netherlands.

Steve advises on trade issues, value chain development, and international standards setting and regulation across Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. He has over 20 years of experience in publicly-funded projects supporting the economic upgrading of agricultural value chains, including DFID-funded Food Retail Industry Challenge Fund, EHPEA, Marks and Spencer, and DFID TGVCI Global Value Chains.

He has proven experience working with procurement executives at major international retailers and importers such as Tesco, Asda, Carrefour, Ahold, Walmart, and Flamingo. Steve has developed benchmark criteria for the global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef and worked with the Dairy Sustainability Framework with a focus on the Dairy Asia Project.
